Trade License in India

Trade License is issued by the Municipal Corporation to traders and establishments to monitor and regulate the various trade activities within the geographical jurisdiction. In other words, a trade license is a method to regulate the trade or business to ensure compliance with rule and safety guidelines issued by the Government from time to time. A company’s business activity and physical location (address) determine the licenses that are required to operate lawfully.
The Trade license is required to be obtained before beginning the business by making an application at least thirty days before the commencement of business.

Difference between shop and Establishment and Trade license

The trade license is not the same as that of the shops and establishment registration, and these are separate registration. Registration under the shops and establishment act can be obtained within 30 days of the start of business. However, you must have a trade license before starting the business by making an application at least 30 days prior. The object of shops and establishment is to regulate the working conditions of employment like wages, holiday etc. In contrast, the purpose of the trade license is to ensure that public health and safety.

Types of Trade License

Trade licenses can be applied by an individual or company based on the kind of trade or business they drive ahead.

Shop License

This license is required for anyone who wants to open a shop. The shop can be of any retail or wholesale type.

Industrial License

This type of license is required for any company that wants to open a small or mid-sized industrial unit.

Health Trade License

This license is required for anyone who wants to open a resturant, cafe, bakery, meat or vegetable shop and saloon.

  • Passport Size Photograph
  • Copy of PAN Card and Aadhar Card
  • Address proof

Document from Proprietorship/Company/ LLP/Partnership firm

  • PAN Card of the Proprietorship/Company/ LLP/Partnership firm
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • AOA/MOA or Partnership Deed
  • List of Shareholders and Director of the company
  • Board Resolution Approving for Registration
  • Details of all the employees (if any)

Premises proof of Establishment

  • Lease Deed/Rent Agreement,
  • Proof of possession like electricity bill/ property tax paid receipt/ Khata Extract certificate.
  • NOC form the owner of the premises
  • Front photo of the shop covering the surroundings along with the board of the said establishment
  • Interior photo of the premise.
  • Site Plan and Key Plan
